Couples Therapy

Understanding the patterns that shape your relationship.

Sometimes couples find themselves feeling stuck in the same relationship patterns.

Not because the love has gone — but because the same ways of relating keep getting in the way.

You may find yourselves having the same conversation again and again.  One of you withdraws.  The other reaches out.

The more one pursues, the more the other pulls away.

Somehow, you're both trying to be understood.

Yet you keep missing each other.

Perhaps you've simply grown apart.

The warmth feels harder to find.

The connection feels different.

You still care deeply about each other.

You just don't seem to know how to find your way back.

If this feels familiar...

You both make sense.

The patterns beneath the relationship

Most couples don't struggle because they're incompatible.

They struggle because each person is trying to protect something important.

One partner may seek reassurance.

The other may need space.

One may become louder.

The other quieter.

Neither response is right or wrong.

They're often protective patterns that developed long before your relationship began.

The relationship becomes the place where those patterns meet.

Understanding those patterns together is where change begins.

How it can show up

Perhaps you...

• Keep having the same arguments.

• Feel unheard or misunderstood.

• Find yourselves growing emotionally distant.

• Struggle to communicate without becoming defensive.

• Feel more like housemates than partners.

• Find it difficult to rebuild trust.

• Love each other, but feel stuck.

These aren't signs that your relationship has failed.

They're patterns that can begin to make sense.

When understanding becomes change

Couples therapy isn't about deciding who's right.

It's about understanding what's happening between you.

Little by little...

You begin to hear each other differently.

Conflict becomes less frightening.

Communication feels calmer.

Repair becomes possible.

Trust begins to grow again.

Connection feels warmer.

Not because either of you has become someone different.

But because you begin to understand each other in new ways.

How we work together

At Papillon, we don't begin by looking for someone to blame.

We begin by becoming curious about the patterns that have

developed between you.

We'll gently explore the experiences, protective responses and relationship dynamics that may be keeping you both stuck.

Where helpful, I also draw on somatic therapy to help you notice what happens in the body and nervous system when difficult patterns are activated between you.

Wherever you're starting, we'll begin there...

Whether you're hoping to rebuild your connection...

Navigate a difficult season...

Or simply understand each other more deeply...

You don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

You simply need somewhere safe to begin.

A quiet truth ...

“The strongest relationships aren't the ones without difficulties. They're the ones where both people feel safe enough to understand each other.”
