Emotional Neglect

When you learnt to carry your feelings alone.

Emotional neglect isn't always easy to recognise.  It often isn't about what was done to you.  It's about what wasn't there.

Perhaps your feelings weren't talked about.
Maybe you learnt to keep your emotions to yourself.
Perhaps you became the independent one, the peacemaker, or the child who never wanted to be a burden.

You may have grown up knowing you were loved, while still feeling unseen, unheard or alone with your emotions.

Because emotional neglect isn't always about a lack of love.

Sometimes it's about a lack of emotional connection.

Whatever your experience, the way you feel makes sense.

It might show up as...

• Finding it difficult to identify or express your feelings.

• Feeling guilty for having needs.

• Believing you have to cope on your own.

• Struggling to ask for help.

• Feeling disconnected from yourself or other people.

Putting everyone else's needs before your own.

• Feeling like you're 'too much'… or not enough.

• Finding it difficult to believe you truly matter.

• Longing to feel understood, while finding it hard to let people in.

These patterns developed for a reason.

As children, we naturally adapt to the environments we grow up in.

If our emotions weren't noticed, welcomed or responded to consistently, we often learn to quiet them.

Not because anything is wrong with us.

But because that's what helped us belong, stay connected, or simply get through.

Those adaptations made sense then.

Together, we'll gently make sense of how those early experiences may still be influencing the way you relate to yourself and others today.

It's never too late to experience something different.

Healing isn't about blaming your parents or rewriting the past.

It's about understanding how your experiences shaped you, so they no longer have to shape your future.

Over time, many people begin to:
• understand and express their emotions more easily
• recognise that their needs matter
• ask for support without guilt
• build healthier, more secure relationships
• feel more connected to themselves

Perhaps, for the first time, you begin to feel truly seen—including by yourself.

Perhaps this is where things begin to feel different...

Together, we'll gently make sense of your experiences, so you can move forward with greater connection, self-compassion and hope.
