Parentification

When you learnt that everyone else's needs came before your own.

Perhaps you became the responsible one.

The peacemaker.

The helper.

The one who held everything together.

Maybe you looked after a parent, a sibling, or simply learnt that there wasn't space for your own needs.

You grew up quickly.  Perhaps too quickly.

You became the child who coped.  The child who didn't ask for much.  The child who carried more than they were ever meant to carry.

The way you adapted made sense.
And the way you feel today makes sense too.

It might show up as...

  • Feeling responsible for everyone else's happiness.

  • Finding it difficult to ask for help.

  • Believing you always have to be strong.

  • Struggling to rest without feeling lazy.

  • Becoming overwhelmed because you're carrying too much.

  • Feeling responsible for fixing other people's problems.

  • Finding it difficult to know what you need.

You don't have to carry everything anymore.

When you've spent a lifetime looking after everyone else, caring for yourself can feel unfamiliar.  Sometimes it can even feel wrong.

You became the adult before you had the chance to simply be the child.

You spent so long taking care of everyone else.
Perhaps nobody ever taught you how to take care of yourself.

Healing isn't about becoming less caring.
It's about recognising that your needs matter too.

Together, we'll gently explore the roles you learnt to take on, helping you discover that your worth was never dependent on how much you carried for other people.

Little by little, you can begin to:

  • put down some of the weight you've been carrying

  • ask for help without guilt

  • set boundaries with greater confidence

  • rest without feeling you've let anyone down

  • discover what you need, not just everyone else

You were never meant to carry so much on your own.

What if you no longer had to carry everything by yourself?

Together, we'll gently make sense of the roles you learnt to take on, helping you discover that caring for yourself is just as important as caring for everyone else.
