Repeating Relationship Patterns

Sometimes it's not the relationship that's repeating.

It's the feeling.

Every relationship begins with hope.

Yet somehow, you find yourself in a familiar place.

Feeling unheard. Unseen. Misunderstood.

Different relationship.

The same feeling.

Perhaps you've promised yourself this time would be different.

That you'd trust yourself more.  Speak up sooner.

Walk away when something didn't feel right.

Yet somehow, the same feelings returned.

You're not failing.

You're recognising a pattern.

It doesn't have to stay this way.

The patterns beneath the surface

Those feelings rarely begin with the relationship itself.

More often, they're connected to the ways your mind and body learnt to stay safe.

Perhaps you learnt to put other people's needs before your own.

To avoid conflict.  To earn love.

To become the one who held everything together.

Or to keep your distance before someone else could hurt you.

At the time, these responses made perfect sense.

They helped you survive.

The difficulty is that they often continue long after the danger has passed.

How these patterns can show up

• Overthinking every conversation.

Finding it hard to say no.

• Losing yourself in relationships.

• Taking responsibility for other people's feelings.

• Staying longer than feels right.

Feeling drawn to emotionally unavailable people.

These aren't flaws.

They're often old ways of staying safe.

There is almost always a reason.

When understanding becomes change

The patterns that once protected you can begin to change.

Not through trying harder.

Not by becoming someone different.

But by understanding what those patterns have been trying to protect.

Little by little, things begin to change.

You recognise old patterns sooner.

Trust yourself more.  Communicate with greater confidence.

Set boundaries with less guilt.

Choose relationships that feel calmer.

Safer. More secure.

Relationships begin to feel different.

Not because you've learnt a new set of rules.

But because you no longer need the same ways of surviving.

How we work together

At Papillon, we don't begin with judgement.

We begin with curiosity.

Together, we'll gently explore the experiences and protective patterns that have shaped the way you relate to yourself and others.

We'll make sense of them together.

And together, we'll discover why.

Wherever you're starting, we'll begin there...

You don't need to know why this keeps happening.

You don't need to have everything figured out.

You simply need somewhere safe to begin.

Together, we'll discover why.

When you're ready.
